Instructor Training

Certified Instructor Training:
Share your riding expertise with others by becoming a certified MSF Rider Coach (formerly "Instructor")

Give something back to the sport that has given you so much—take up the challenge of helping to save lives by certifying to teach the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) RiderCourse®.

To qualify for enrollment in the program, you must be a licensed motorcyclist who currently rides on a frequent, routine basis and has several years of varied riding experience. You need good communication skills and a sincere desire to help reduce motorcycle crashes, injuries and deaths. Finally, you will be required to pass a riding skills test prior to being accepted into the program.

Upon being accepted into the program, you will participate in an intensive instructor-training course (approximately 80 hours long, generally involving nine to ten days of training). A specially-trained Chief Instructor will train you to teach the RiderCourse® curriculum—including practice teaching in the classroom, learning to manage range exercises and developing techniques to evaluate and coach students. At the end of this phase of training, you will be required to pass a knowledge test in order to continue in the program.

The certification course culminates in student teaching a complete RiderCourse®: Riding and Street Skills to a group of twelve new riders at a course sponsor site, while being evaluated by an MSF-certified Chief Instructor.

After successful completion of the Instructor Preparation Course and student teaching, you’ll be certified by both MSF and MANYS® to teach RiderCourse®: Riding and Street Skills.
